New (?) Rimmel Magnif'Eyes Mono Eye Shadow Review and Swatches

Hey all!

Just wanted to do a really quick blog post to keep up my momentum since I've been busier than expected lately (just went to my first Royals game of the season - I know, I know, such a rough life lol).  These popped up in my Walgreens about a month ago and were labelled as new, but I've only seen them in one displayer - they didn't say limited edition on the packaging though, so maybe they will make it into their permanent collection in the big summer reset of the cosmetic lines you see on your wall and aisles in your local drugstores.

(Note:  most drugstore brands follow a method of doing two major product launch/redos twice a year:  the end of January, and the middle of the summer - most of the rest of the time you get minor single-product launches and limited edition items).

Anyway, I think I paid $4.99 each or so for the two shadows that I picked up.  On Rimmel's website they list six shades, but I only ever saw four in person.  The two that I have to show you are 002 in Millionaire and 004 in VIP Pass.

First Impressions

I actually was pleasantly surprised by these!  They are actually very buttery and when I put them over a primer I honestly couldn't tell a difference in intensity at all.  They don't come with a little sponge shadow applicator, but I always end up throwing those away anyway because I would rather use a makeup brush or even my finger.  My pictures below might not be the best though and I apologize but I'm still learning and it was cloudy outside today :(

002 Millionaire Swatches

This one is definitely a basic taupe with between a satin and shimmer finish, but don't get me wrong - I LOVE taupe!  My favorite eyeshadow color ever and I have never met one I didn't like.  And I swear that there are a million different shades of taupe too!

 004 VIP Pass

This one is more of a traditional coffee color, a richer deeper brown.  These two shades would actually probably work very well together with the first all over the lid and this one blended into the crease for a quick natural slightly smoky eye.  I found the texture to be just as creamy, and again it has a finish somewhere between a satin and shimmer.

Totally dropped it and broke off the corner two seconds before picture time!

So what do you guys think?  Would you pick one up if you found it in the store?  I'll probably end up passing the darker shade along, but my taupe addiction won't let me go of the first one!  Comment below and let me know what I should do next:  I have some of the LE Wonder Woman Collection from Walgreens, I could do a subscription box unwrapping and review, or I have some new Wet n' Wild LE items I scooped up as well that I'm dying to try out!

Swatches and Review - Stella Fiesta Press-On Nails

So this is probably not the best first real blog post, haha. I found a set of cheap ($2) press-on nails that I had purchased at Walgreens around Christmas time, when they have their display of $ stocking stuffers.  First off, they are a LOT longer nails than I am used to and it's hard for me to even type!

Here's a picture of the box (after I already removed the nails). As you can see, it only came with 12 nails in 6 sizes.  I ended up using all but the smallest size.

Doesn't that packaging make you want to buy it immediately?!
First of all, these are basically press-on nails that seem like the top was coated with glue and then sprinkled with bar glitter.  That's it. They are extremely rough and bits of the glitter stick off the sides of the nails themselves.

So rough!
I then tried to see if they could be smoothed out any, so I used two thick coats of my favorite top coat, Seche Vite.  When i was putting the top coat on it seemed to be making them smoother, but by the time it had dried the nails had sucked all of the polish into their nooks and crannies and it was like I hadn't done anything at all.  Then I tried to file the tops and sides to get rid of the bar gltter pieces sticking out. For reference, I always use a crystal nail file and file in one direction. There was a sliiiiight difference, but overall I hate to admit that these nails are most likely getting taken off before work tomorrow, if none fall off on their own before then,

Final look
From far away they actually look halfway decent, but I got what I paid for on the price for these!  They could be fun for a night out though.

Well that's it for this first review!  Please leave comments below, and I promise I have more exciting posts planned! Things like drugstore dupes for high-end products, how to make the most of your money at drugstores (since I work at one I know a lot of tips and tricks), tons more swatching and reviews and if I get brave enough to show my face maybe some tutorials!

Thank you all so so much for reading as I'm just getting started :)  Hopefully coming up tomorrow: my April ipsy subscription box review!

OMG, I Finally Did It

So this post isn't actually going to say much. In fact, I'm not sure if anyone will ever even read it! I decided to create a blog because I love makeup, especially drugstore (aka mass market) right now because I happen to be a manager at a large retail drugstore chain! The name of my blog comes from my joke that I might as well be paid in store credit instead of money, since every week there is something new and shiny that I just can't resist purchasing! From makeup to skincare to bath/body to haircare to my biggest passion, nail polish, I love trying out anything new.

While lately I've been more into drugstore brands, I am also always up to try and buy indie and high-end brands as well. So you can expect to see a wide variety of content in reviews and swatches and photos. I'm hoping to do tutorials further along too! I have to go "earn my store credit" now since my shift starts soon,  but I'm going to put up my first "real" part up either later today or tomorrow!

Hopefully someday I'll look back at this first post and laugh at how inexperienced i was, but I will always welcome feedback on either topics you want to hear more about or how I can improve my posts!

Talk to yall soon,
Danielle
